B.S. Recreation -Concentration in Recreation Therapy
B.s Recreation -concentration in recreation therapy
The B.S. Recreation Degree Program offers a specialized concentration in Recreation Therapy. This concentration will help prepare students to take the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) exam and the Recreator Certified (through the California Board of Recreation and Park Certification) exam to work as a Certified Recreation Therapy Specialist (CTRS) or Recreation Therapist (RTC) after graduation. Recreation therapists provide treatment towards healthy body, mind and spirit (in collaboration with other health professionals) in a variety of organizational settings including hospitals, clinics, nonprofit and health care organizations, nursing homes, correctional facilities and parks and recreation agencies. The concentration is comprised of 38 units of core classes, 13 units of recreation therapy classes and 13 units of classes in support of the major. The internship includes a 560 hour full-time experience under the supervision of a faculty member and a professional CTRS/RTC in an agency setting.
