Welcome to the Department of Kinesiology. Thank you for your interest in our department, whether it is to pursue graduate or undergraduate work, or to take a GE or physical activity class. Kinesiology is defined as the “art and science of human movement.” This is an academic discipline, based around the study of physical activity in work, play, games, sport, aquatics, dance, combatives, adventure and fitness activities. Our graduates work as athletic directors, athletic trainers, in cardiac rehabilitation, as coaches, personal trainers, physical education teachers, sport managers, or enter physical therapy or medical school, and many other areas.
We have over 20 faculty members who hold a doctoral degree, most of whom teach graduate-level classes. A feature of our undergraduate major is the internships/fieldwork that give every student “hands on” experience that goes with the theoretical knowledge obtained in the classroom. In General Education, we have a range of classes in Area E (lower division) and Area S (upper division Advanced GE, formerly SJSU studies). Our selection of over 60 physical activity classes, all taught by experts, help you fulfill the two unit university physical education graduation requirement and provide skills and knowledge to all.
We think you will find that our faculty and staff are friendly and interested in helping you to succeed in your academic endeavors. Come check us out!
