Application Information for Domestic Applicants

Domestic applicants are defined as U.S. Citizens, Permanent Residents (Green Card holders), and non-F or non-J visa holders.

General Procedures

These procedures are for domestic applicants for the MBA and MST (Taxation) programs only. If you are interested in the MSA (Accountancy), MBA/MSE or MSTM (Transportation) programs, please refer to their program requirements for specific details.

Step 1

Complete your application online at CSUMentorExternal Link that Will Take User Outside SJSU Domain. Please select MBA Off-Campus for the Executive-Style MBA, MBA-One for the full time accelerated MBA-One program, and MBA On-Campus for the Conventional MBA. If you have taken the GMAT, please enter your score. If you have not taken the GMAT yet, please enter a date in order to be able to move forward in the application.
Once you have completed your application, you must pay a non-refundable application fee of $55.00 either online via credit/debit card, or mail a check or money order to the Graduate Studies and Research office. If you are mailing a check or money order, be sure to include a copy of the "Application Agreement Statement" with your payment.

Step 2

Take the GMAT exam and have the score sent directly to the Lucas Graduate School of Business. Please check this page for GMAT test information.

Step 3

The following documents must be sent directly to the Lucas Graduate School of Business:

  1. A copy of the first page of your online application (printed off the CSU MentorExternal Link that Will Take User Outside SJSU Domain website) so we can match your name, program, contact information, etc.
  2. Two official sets of transcripts (U.S. degree certificates and translations for out of country applicants) from ALL universities attended.
  3. Personal statement -Please address the following questions in the body of your personal statement. Limit your responses to two pages double spaced.
  4. A GMAT score report
  5. A Resume
  6. Letters of recommendation are optional.  If you wish to submit recommendations, they may be sent from individuals (current or former supervisors, professors) who are able to objectively assess the quality of your character and your capabilities and accomplishments. Letters of recommendation should include the provider's relationship to the applicant, their complete address and contact information (if not printed on the letterhead), and discuss the applicant's level of maturity, motivation, intellectual ability.

We will compile all of your documentation into one file and when the file is complete, we will deliver your file to the Graduate Studies and Research office so that the evaluation process can begin. We have found that this procedure expedites the evaluation process and enables us to support and more closely monitor your file to completion.

Please Note the following important items:
  1. On occasion some supplemental documents may be required such as a Residency Questionnaire. Graduate Studies and Research will notify you by email if that is required to complete your application.
  2. If you have completed a degree at an institution that is outside of the U.S., please visit our International Document Requirements page and find the country where the institution is located. The list shows different document requirements by countries. Applicants must follow instructions listed for the particular country, otherwise the documents will be considered as unofficial.
  3. The TOEFL or IELTS score is required for all students who graduated from a higher education institution outside of the U.S. where the primary language of instruction was not English. The minimum TOEFL entrance score is 80 (internet score), 550 or higher (paper based), or 213 or higher (computer based). The minimum IELTS entrance score is 7.0. All test scores must be less than 2 years old and should be sent directly to the Lucas Graduate School.
The SJSU Graduate Studies and Research Admissions Process

While the Lucas Graduate School of Business office makes the final admissions decision for our business graduate programs, the overall admissions process for all SJSU graduate programs is managed by the SJSU Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluations.

When all of your required documents are received and your status is listed as complete on your MySJSU student account, your application will undergo the initial review by the Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluations office. An evaluator will be assigned to evaluate your grade point average (GPA), your degree, and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or IELTS scores if required. When this process is completed, the application will be referred to the Lucas Graduate School of Business for the final review and an admissions decision.
