Application Information for International Applicants

International applicants are defined as individuals who hold F-1 or J-1 Visas.

General Procedures

These procedures are for international applicants for the MBA programs.

Step 1
Complete the International Application online at CSUMentorExternal Link that Will Take User Outside SJSU Domain.


Unless payment is made by credit/debit card, mail the application fee to:

Step 2
Submit a completed Declaration of Finance form and copy of your current passport. Instructions per the Graduate Admissions and Programs Evaluation (GAPE) website:

  • Funds from government or private agencies - Student must attach verification letter on letterhead from government or agency stating amount that will be received.
  • Funds from individual sponsor or self-sponsor - Sponsor must sign declaration of finance or provide signed letter declaring intent to sponsor.
  • If student has own funds, the declaration of finance must be signed by the student. Bank verification (example: a copy of bank statement) of all funds must be provided and dated within the current year.
  • A copy of your current passport will also be required. The name listed on your passport will be the same name that will be used on your I-20 if you are offered admission. There will be no exceptions to this rule.

Federal/State financial aid is not available to international students. Visit the University’s financial page to see other types of aid that are available.

Step 3
If you have not already done so, take the GMAT exam and have the score sent directly to the Lucas Graduate School of Business.  Please check this page for specific codes - GMAT test information.

Step 4

Mail all documents directly to the Graduate Admission and Program Evaluations (GAPE) office:

Step 5
Lucas School Required Items for MBA Program Admission Review
1.      
A duplicate set of all the educational documents transcripts/diplomas etc. listed on your MySJSU “To Do” list.  This will enable the Lucas School to assess your candidacy, guide you through the application process and expedite your admission review.  The duplicate set of transcripts need not be official copies.

2.      Statement of Purpose - Please address the following questions in the body of your essay. Limit your responses to two pages double spaced.

3.      A GMAT score report

4.      A Resume

5.      Letters of recommendation are optional but highly recommended.  If you wish to submit recommendations, they may be sent from individuals (current or former employers, supervisors, professors) who are able to objectively assess the quality of your character and your capabilities and accomplishments. Letters of recommendation should include the provider's relationship to the applicant, their complete address and contact information (if not printed on the letterhead), and discuss the applicant's level of maturity, motivation, intellectual ability.

The San José State University Graduate Admissions Review Process
While the Lucas Graduate School of Business office makes the final admissions decision for our business graduate programs, the overall admissions process for all SJSU graduate programs is managed by the SJSU Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluations.
See Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluations Office for additional information.  We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the requirements, timelines and advice this web page offers. During the application process, please review the information for Prospective Students, including the Frequently Asked Questions section.
When all of your required documents on your “To Do List” are received and your status is listed as complete on your MySJSU student account, your application will undergo the initial review by the GAPE office. An evaluator will be assigned to evaluate your grade point average (GPA), your degree, and English Language Proficiency examination scores if required, When this process is completed, the application will be referred to the Lucas Graduate School of Business for the final review and an admissions decision.
