Visiting Scholar, International School of Business, Nankai University; Fellow, Virtual Center for Advanced Studies in Institution (VCASI); Previously Research Fellow at Japan Society for the Promotion of Science; Author of The Science of Strategy (2006, NTT Publishing), The Science of Organization (2008, NTT Publishing), and others. Professor Taniguchi’s research interests are in strategic management and comparative institutional analysis. He has visited Stanford University and Nankai University to do research.

Abstract

The global auto industry is undergoing massive and remarkable changes, and Asia’s auto makers, especially Honda, are among those leading the charge. This paper concerns the evolution of Honda’s environmental management; how it emerged, and how it was organized, managed and carried out. The paper integrates cognition, dynamic capabilities, and governance in an increasingly global and environmentally-conscious auto industry
