Nutrition Education Action Team (NEAT)
What is NEAT?
Nutrition Education Action Team (NEAT) is the nutrition peer health education group at SJSU. NEAT is a part of the Student Health Center’s Wellness and Health Promotion office and a recognized student organization. NEAT students give dynamic presentations, plan award winning nutrition events, and work to improve the nutrition of SJSU students.
Why Join?
- NEAT students gain valuable, hands-on nutrition education and leadership experience.
- NEAT improves health communication and public speaking skills.
- NEAT students can report up to 50 hours per semester as non-hospital DI hours.
How to Join?
- All students must submit an application. Membership is limited and late applications are not accepted. APPLICATION DEADLINE for fall 2009 is August 27 by 5:00 pm to Health Building 209. Click Here to Download (PDF) Application. Applications are available in the Health Building 209, in CCB outside the first floor food lab, or online on the SJSU Student Health Center website.
- Students must have completed NuFS 8 or 9 with a “B” or better before applying to NEAT.
Your Commitment:
- Fulfilling the NEAT commitment will complete approximately 50 hours that can be reported as non hospital DI hours.
- Attend the mandatory retreat on August 29, 10:00am – 2:00pm.
- Attend 11 meetings/semester on most Thursdays from 12:00-1:00.
- Deliver 2 presentations to SJSU students, 1 presentation to other NEAT members, participate in 2 tabling/outreach events, 1 passive programming (LCD slide, video clip, or posterboard)
- Work 13 hours/semester in the Wellness and Health Promotion office.
