People-Centered Practice

At San José State University, People-Centered Practice reflects our commitment to supporting faculty, staff, and students through responsive, efficient processes. By simplifying administrative functions, reducing barriers, and improving services, we make it easier for our community to focus on teaching, learning, and advancing our shared mission. Guided by collaboration, continuous improvement, and innovation, we are building systems that meet today's needs while preparing for tomorrow's opportunities.

What is it?
A People-Centered Practice focuses on the people doing the work. By centering improvements on the needs and experiences of our faculty, staff, and students, we can create more responsive, supportive, and efficient systems. At SJSU, this will improve our critical functions like position management, recruiting, and onboarding, with guidance from cross-divisional workgroups and the PCP Sponsor Team to ensure continuous improvement and collaboration.
Understanding the importance of effective, streamline processes, SJSU is focusing improvement efforts on three processes that impact all campus departments: position management, recruiting, and onboarding. Cross-divisional workgroups will be established for each function, with guidance and oversight provided by the PCP Sponsor Team. We want to hear from you! Share your feedback on any processes you feel would benefit from review.

How We Got Here
The team is off to a strong start! SJSU has partnered with Steyer Content, to support process map facilitation documentation and our continuous improvement development. All three process improvement priorities have completed current state mapping and are actively designing effeicient future state processes.
