Making Waves: Asian & Pacific Islander Graduation

Making Waves: Asian & Pacific Islander (API) Graduation is held at the end of the academic school year to honor our graduating Asian, Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Multiracial undergraduate and graduate students. This event highlights their triumphs, while also affirming the unique challenges Asian and Pacific Islander students experience in higher education. This graduation celebration is separate from SJSU Commencement. 

Spring 2024's Making Waves: API Graduation will be held on Sunday, May 19th, 2024 at 4 - 6 PM in the Diaz Compean Student Union Ballrooms. 

• Who is eligible to participate?

  • SJSU students who have graduated in Fall 2023 and SJSU students who will be graduating in Spring 2024, Summer 2024, and Fall 2024 can participate in Spring 2024's Making Waves: API Graduation.

• How can I register to participate?

  • Our registration form for Spring 2024 is now closed. If you have successfully registered, you will receive an email with more information on Tuesday, April 23rd.

• When is the deadline to register to participate?

  • The deadline to register to participate was Wednesday, April 17th, 2024 at 11:59 PM. We have limited space this year, so we are unable to accomodate late registrations for this year.

• What do I receive as a graduate if I register and participate?

  • Graduating SJSU students who register for and attend Making Waves: API Graduation will receive: a celebration where they will be recognized on stage, a reception at the celebration with light appetizers, and an API Graduation stole to recognize their accomplishments. Graduates must attend in-person to receive a stole.

• How many guests can I bring?

  • Each participating graduate is limited to 8 guests for Spring 2024's Making Waves: API Graduation due to limited seating in our venue. We will be unable to accomodate more than 8 guests per a graduate for this year due to the venue's capacity limitations.
    
    Guest ticketing information has been directly provided to registered graduates via email.

• What is the attire/dress code for graduating students?

  • There is no dress code for the event, but as it is a graduation celebration, we encourage you to enjoy and celebrate in the ways you would like.
    
    You are not required you to wear your cap and gown for this event. We strongly encouage you to wear cultural clothing if that feels celebratory for you.
