Geography at San Jose State University has long integrated social science, natural science, and technology to provide students with a broad exposure to a range of subjects and prepare them for a variety of careers. Students specifically focus on either urban analysis or on geographic information science. Geographic information technology is an expanding set of tools to analyze the world and communicate cartographically via maps. Geographic information systems and remote sensing software enable us to analyze large quantities of spatial data. Cartographic visualization, presentation, and animation provide ways to see and communicate geographic patterns and processes. Graduates in the Urban Emphasis find employment in urban planning, transportation analysis, and site-location analysis. Graduates emphasizing Geographic Information Science are employed by consulting firms, and by local, state, and Federal agencies. |
