Laser & Radiation Safety Program

LASER is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation.

Eye safety is the number one concern for anyone working with or near a laser. Though it happens rarely, the laser can severely and permanently damage the eye.

Engineering controls and protective eyewear may be necessary when using lasers.

Radioactive material (sealed or unsealed sources) and radiation producing devices, such as X-ray units, are important tools in research and educational activities.

SJSU has a Broad Scope B license granted by the California Department of Health Services. The University is permitted to receive, possess, store, use, transfer, import, and dispose of radioactive material and radiation producing devices.
