Elder Care

San José State University and CalPERS offer useful programs to help employees manage elder and long-term care resources:

  • Concern: EAP Eldercare Services
As our population ages, we are facing the increased responsibility of caring for aging parents or relatives. Many people find themselves sandwiched between the needs of their dependent children and the needs of dependent parents or relatives. Care giving can take many forms:
    • Emotional reassurance
    • Transportation
    • Shopping
    • Home maintenance
    • Financial and medical management
    • Monetary support
    • Personal care tasks
  • CalPERS Long-Term Care Program
As a California state employee, you (as well as your spouse, parents, parents-in-law and adult siblings) are eligible to purchase this long-term care insurance administered through CalPERS. The program accepts applications for those eligible between the ages of 18-79. Open Enrollment for CalPERS Long-Term Care Program is generally each year from April 1 through June 30.
