SJSU Cares understands that, as a student experiencing an unforeseen economic crisis, you may be struggling with more than one need. We encourage you to review each of the links below to familiarize yourself with some of the ways we may be able to assist you.
I need assistance with . . .
Some of the most common issues that students connect with SJSU Cares about include, but aren't limited to:
Particularly when it comes to food, there are a lot of resources on campus and in the community.
Spartan Food Pantry
In partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank and with funding and support from the CSU Chancellor's Office and SB 85, SJSU Cares will be opening a permanent on-campus food pantry in the Spring 2019 semester. Please check back regularly for updates!
Just In Time (mobile food pantry)
One morning each month, in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank, we have the Just In Time program on campus in the Event Center from 10am-11:15am. We bring in thousands of pounds of fresh fruits, vegetables and grocery items (perishable and non-perishable) for students.
CalFresh is a state program that can get you free financial assistance in the form of a debit card for groceries each month. Many students are eligible and never apply! Find out more.
Nearly every student who seeks assistance from the SJSU Cares program is given the opportunity to meet with one of SJSU Cares' case managers. Either in person or by phone, you can discuss with someone in-depth the circumstances surrounding your financial crisis. Together, the two of you will identify and prioritize the best strategies and resources you can use in working towards a solution for your crisis, so that you can successfully complete another semester towards your degree at SJSU. See how our case managers have supported other Spartans who reached out for assistance.
Swipe Out Hunger
SJSU has joined the national campaign to help Swipe Out Hunger at SJSU; sometimes that means just donating or requesting a few meals in the commons.
