
The School of Social Work at San José State University is committed to using and promoting a transcultural perspective. This transcultural perspective informs the curriculum and promotes advocating for social justice, honoring the strengths of diverse cultures, and enhancing the well being of individuals and communities.
The School of Social Work is part of the College of Applied Sciences and Arts (CASA).
Admission of first-time freshmen will be based on the minimum eligibility index of 3,200 using SAT combined score for critical reading and math sections or 760 using the ACT.
Admission of upper division transfer students will be based on overall transfer GPA. All eligible applicants must have an overall transfer GPA of at least 2.6, and have completed with a grade of C or better, the following courses:
* Human Biology (or the equivalent to Biology 21 at SJSU) and
* Elementary Statistics (or the equivalent to Statistics 95 at SJSU).
For all impacted programs, applicants must apply to the University during the initial filing period of October and November for the following fall semester or August for the following spring semester. Applicants must indicate their choice of major on the application. All eligible applicants will be rank ordered by eligibility indices for freshmen and overall transfer GPA for upper division transfer students and admission offers will be made in descending order BASED ON SPACE AVAILABILITY. For continuing students who seek to change majors to an impacted program, they will be subject to the same criteria for admission to the impacted major as transfer students.

Effective immediately, the Social Work minor has been temporarily suspended to new applicants. Students with a signed Social Work minor form may continue taking classes.
