We emphasize the study of social inequalities (race, gender, class, sexualities), globalization, social justice and social action. With more than 550 majors, two specialty concentrations are offered: Community Change and Social Interaction. There are 8 full-time and 18 part-time faculty teaching more than 65 different classes each semester.

CONGRATULATIONS ! YOU DID IT !
If you are a graduating senior or graduate student who is receiving your degree in May or August 2013, or received your degree in December of 2012, the Sociology Department Graduation Ceremony and Reception on Thursday, May 23rd is for you.
Location & Time: The ceremony will be held at the Barrett Ballroom of the Student Union beginning promptly at 11:00 a.m.

Please fill out the Graduation Registration Form to register for the event.
Complete information about graduation will be provided when you drop in to get tickets, for more generic information please visit the commencement website.
DATES POSTED FOR SPRING 2013 COMP EXAMS
Comprehensive exams, for students who are eligible to take them, will be offered on the following dates. To register for an exam, fill out the online form at Comprehensive Examinations.
Area exam: Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 5:15pm
Theory exam: Friday, May 17, 2013 at 2:45pm
Methods exam: Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 5:15pm
Sign-up/Registration deadline: Tuesday, April 30, 2013
FALL 2013 PERMISSION NUMBERS
Students needing permission numbers for Fall 2013 Sociology 104B and 181B should complete the Fall 2013 Permission Numbers online request form. Only students who have applied for Fall 2013 Graduation are eligible to enroll in SOCI 181B.
ADMISSIONS TO CRIMINOLOGY NOW CLOSED
New students are no longer being accepted into the Sociology Concentration in Criminology.
