Community & Study Space

CAPISE is a fully-operational space in the Student Union! We have tables and a comfy sofa where you can study/take a break between classes and be in community with other students. You can also chat with our student and professional staff about any questions you might have about CAPISE services, events, and programs and/or about SJSU. 

Additionally, you can come by to access any and all of our resources:

  • On-campus and off-campus resource flyers
  • Testing supplies (big and small green books, variety of scantrons, manual/mechanical pencils)
  • Asian Pacific Islander (API) Resource Library (see section below)

Peer Mentoring Program

The Asian Pacific Islander Empower Mentorship (API EM) Program is a new peer mentoring program for first-time, first-year (Frosh) Asian and Pacific Islander undergraduate students. Our first cohort of mentors and mentees completed the program in Spring 2023.

We have admitted and accepted our second cohort of mentees and mentors for the 2023-2024 academic year. We will be recruiting for our next cohort of first-year mentees in Summer 2024. 

We are currently hiring for peer mentors (undergraduate students who have completed 1 full year at SJSU) for the 2024-2025 academic year! Please find more information and the position application here.


Academic Advising (Spring 2024)

CAPISE partners with SJSU College Student Success Centers to provide weekly drop-in academic advising hours in our space for students to easily access. Academic advising hours are not available for Spring 2024.

When we have additional advising hours, we will update the information here!


Career Advising (Spring 2024)

CAPISE partners with SJSU's Career Center to provide monthly drop-in career advising in our space for students to easily access. Career advising hours will begin on Monday, February 26th.

  • Sandra De Leon, Biweekly on Mondays from 1:30 - 2:30 PM (2/26, 3/11, 3/25, 4/8, 4/22, 5/6)

Let’s Talk (Spring 2024)

CAPISE partners with SJSU's Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) to provide weekly drop-in hours with a staff from CAPS in our space for students to easily access. Students can use these drop-in hours to learn about how to access support, explore resources, provide perspective, and discuss how counseling could be helpful. Let’s Talk hours will begin on Tuesday, February 6th.

  • Dr. Shikha Saggi, Weekly on Tuesdays from 11 AM - 12 PM

Study Abroad Advising (Spring 2024)

CAPISE partners with SJSU's Study Abroad & Away to provide weekly drop-in study abroad advising in our space for students to easily access. Study abroad advising hours will begin on Thursday, February 8th.

  • Dr. Vidalino “Vid” Raatior, First Thursday of Each Month from 1:30 - 2:30 PM (2/8, 3/7, 4/11, 5/9)

Asian Pacific Islander (API) Resource Library

The Asian Pacific Islander (API) Resource Library has a variety of books that reflect our diverse API community, ranging from fiction and poetry to nonfiction and autobiographies. SJSU community members are welcome to read our books while they are in the center or check out a book they’re interested in and borrow it for a one-month period. Our API Resource Library is located next to our front desk, near the entrance to our space. If you are interested in providing book recommendations or donating books to our library, please contact us at capise@sjsu.edu.
