Athletic Training

San Jose State University is one of eight universities in the United States that has both a graduate and undergraduate athletic training education program.  Both Athletic Training Education Programs (ATEP) are housed in the Department of Kinesiology.

The San Jose State University undergraduate ATEP is currently a CAATE accredited program, and the graduate ATEP is currently NATA accredited.

The undergraduate program emphasis is on preparing qualified athletic trainers for the profession by establishing their eligibility to take the Board of Certification (BOC) Examination. The program emphasis develops cognitive skills, psychomotor mastery, and affective values.

The graduate athletic training education program's (GATEP) emphasis is to provide advanced information, promote research and critical thinking to students who are BOC certified or certification-eligible.
