Our Role in Campus Diversity
The Division of Academic Affairs is deeply committed to fulfilling San Jose State's vision of campus diversity as a vital asset that enriches our students' learning experience. The Office of Faculty Affairs has a central role to play in helping the campus build a diverse faculty.
The Diversity Master Plan (2009) explicitly charged Faculty Affairs to put in place procedures that would serve to broaden applicant pools, and then monitor recruitment processes to assure that campus policies are followed. More recently, the University Action Plan (2014) confirmed San Jose State’s commitment to "a recruitment protocol that ensures diverse applicant pools during the recruitment process." In both of these documents, the responsibility for recruitment of a diverse faculty resides in Faculty Affairs. In addition, the Office of Faculty Affairs takes the lead in supporting initiatives that help to retain faculty and prepare them for a successful tenure and promotion review.
