All BME undergraduate students must see their Academic Advisor every semester before registering. Advising periods begin a few weeks before registration.
Information about Advising and about Departmental events is communicated through the departmental mailing lists (BME Undegraduates, BME Graduate Students, BME Alumni). All BME students are encouraged to join the appropriate mailing list.
Undergraduates need to bring a copy of all transcripts from other colleges attended the first time they see an advisor. (Yes, even though you already had your transcripts mailed to the University, you still need to bring in an unofficial copy to your advisor.) You will not be allowed to register if we do not have a copy of your transfer transcripts on file in the department office.
How to meet with your advisor
Note: this is the up-to-date information for students who have an advising hold for Fall 2024 and want it to be removed.
Here are some important dates to keep in mind:
- The Fall 2024 class schedule will be posted on MySJSU in April.
- Advanced registration for Continuing Students begins in April.
Step 1: find your advisor
During the Spring 2024 semester, the undergraduate advisors are assigned based on the student’s last name, as listed below.
Junior, Senior and Graduate students can book an appointment with their designated advisor via Spartan Connect.
|Aa - Co
|WR 01:30 - 2:30PM
|Da - Ma
|Me - Se
|Sh - Yu
|W 10:30 - 11:30AM
|A - H
|MR 11:30AM - 12:30PM (Zoom)

|N - Z
| T 12:00 - 2:00PM (Zoom)
R 1:30 - 3:00PM (in person)
|W 5:00 - 7:00PM (Zoom)
Step 2: book an appointment with your advisor
Advising appointments can be booked on Spartan Connect.
Please remember to cancel your current appointment if you are not able to make it, before creating a new appointment.
If you are not able to cancel your appointment or have difficulties scheduling an appointment on Spartan Connect, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Step 3: Make a tentative plan for Fall 2024
Identify the classes you are planning to take in Fall 2024. This is a starting point, and it will be further discussed and refined with your advisor.
Step 4: Submit your advising form electronically
Undergraduate students need to complete and submit their advising form for Fall 2024. You’ll be prompted to enter your information and your advisor’s. After that, you will be able to fill out a DocuSign form where you should indicate the classes you are planning to take in Fall 2024, and your anticipated workload. Please do that before you meet with your advisor, even if you are not sure about your plan, so when you meet your advisor already has a snapshot of your situation.
Step 5: Meet with your advisor at the time of your appointment
This is the final step, in most cases. In Spartan Connect, you will learn if your
advising meeting will be in person or via Zoom. If your meeting is on Zoom, you will
have to use the Zoom link shared by your advisor in Spartan Connect. (SJSU authentication
is required to log into the Zoom meeting.)
You will be placed in a waiting room until your advisor is ready to meet with you. It is possible that you may have to wait few minutes.
At the meeting your advisor and you will reach an agreement on the classes you will be taking in Fall 2024. At the end of the meeting, your advisor will remove your advising hold.
