All BME undergraduate students must see their Academic Advisor every semester before registering. Advising periods begin a few weeks before registration.
Information about Advising and about Departmental events is communicated through the departmental mailing lists (BME Undegraduates, BME Graduate Students, BME Alumni). All BME students are encouraged to join the appropriate mailing list.
Undergraduates need to bring a copy of all transcripts from other colleges attended the first time they see an advisor. (Yes, even though you already had your transcripts mailed to the University, you still need to bring in an unofficial copy to your advisor.) You will not be allowed to register if we do not have a copy of your transfer transcripts on file in the department office.

Undergraduate students need to complete and submit their advising form for Fall 2022. You’ll be prompted to enter your information and your advisor’s. After that, you will be able to fill out a DocuSign form where you should indicate the classes you are planning to take in Fall 2022, and your anticipated workload. Please do that before you meet with your advisor, even if you are not sure about your plan, so when you meet your advisor already has a snapshot of your situation.
This is the final step, in most cases. If your meeting is on Zoom, you will have to
use the Zoom link shared by your advisor in Spartan Connect. (SJSU authentication
is required to log into the Zoom meeting.)
You will be placed in a waiting room until your advisor is ready to meet with you. It is possible that you may have to wait few minutes.
At the meeting your advisor and you will reach an agreement on the classes you will be taking in Fall 2022. At the end of the meeting, your advisor will remove your advising hold.
A copy of your Study Plan (see below) with classes completed and classes in which you are currently enrolled clearly identified.
Current Roadmaps (Study Plans)
Older Roadmaps (Study Plans)
Students should follow the Study Plan corresponding to their catalog year (typically, that is the year when the student joined SJSU, either as a freshman or a transfer student). Deviations from the Study Plan (e.g. to take a new course added to later catalogs) should be discussed with an Undergraduate Advisor.
