Returning to SJSU: Advising and Next Steps

1. Schedule an appointment with an advisor:

Start by meeting with a Students in Transition advisor to discuss your goals and create a plan for returning to SJSU. Choose the option that works best for you: 

  • Fill out the Intake Form to be contacted by a Sr. Academic Advisor
  • Attend a drop-in appointment for quick questions and guidance

2. Your advising appointment - what to expect:

During your advising appointment, your advisor will review your academic record and develop a personalized action plan that may include:

  • Required coursework for the major you intend to pursue.
  • Total units remaining for your desired major.
  • Information about retroactive withdrawals, reinstatement, and the readmission process.
  • Information about continuing your coursework through Open University if applicable.

Retroactive Course Drops and Withdrawals

A retroactive late course drop or withdrawal allows you to drop classes after the semester has ended if you had an extenuating circumstance. If approved, these petitions can improve your GPA.
