Registration for the Fall and Spring begins on the first day of class for the semester. Please watch our video playlist below for step-by-step registration instructions or take our interactive walk-through.
Currently-enrolled (admitted) SJSU students or those who have been admitted for the current term are not eligible to enroll through Open University. Registration for Open University students is not guaranteed and is subject to space availability. The enrollment limit for the Fall and Spring semester is 17 units for undergraduate students and 16 units for graduate students.
How to Create an Account With Quick Admit
This tutorial will show first-time students to Open University how to create their student account on MySJSU with the Quick Admit feature.
How to Term Activate And Add a Class
This tutorial will show both new and returning students how to activate their MySJSU account for the current term and how to add a class on MySJSU.
How to Submit a DocuSign Registration Form
This tutorial will show both new and returning students how to complete the Open University online DocuSign registration form.
Identify your student status
Choose from the student status below. Depending on your student status, registration instructions will vary.
First-Time Open University student
- First-Time student w/ no SJSU ID (i.e. a student who attends another university or
college)
Get your account ready. Create a MySJSU account via Quick Admit.
Access Quick Admit (available Aug 19 at 8 am - Sep 13 at 11:59 pm)
After 24-48 hours, activate your MySJSU account and use the blue MySJSU button on one.sjsu.edu. Please refer to the first-time user login guide and how to access your gmail guide when logging into your accounts for the first time.
Class instruction and registration begins on Wednesday, August 21. Attend classes online or in person starting Wednesday, August 21. Classes are listed as either a waitlist class or an instructor consent class. See our FAQ in more detail.
Starting Wednesday, August 21, enroll in your class(es) in one of two ways:
- MySJSU. Add yourself to the class if you meet the prerequisites and there is no waitlist. Add yourself to the waitlist if the class is full. If instructor consent is required, email the faculty for a permission number.
- DocuSign Open U registration form. Have your instructor add you to the waitlist if the class is full. Permission numbers are not necessary for form submissions.
Must have GAPE office approval for 200+ level classes. See our graduate student webpage for more information.Starting Saturday, August 31, permission numbers will be required to enroll in all classes.

or attended SJSU)
Get your account ready. Log into MySJSU starting the first day of instruction to the last day to add (Sep 17), and choose Fall 2024 to activate the term. Follow the instructions in our video tutorial. If you have issues accessing your student account, you can reset your password or contact the IT Help Desk at ithelpdesk@sjsu.edu.

- First-Time student w/ SJSU ID and a recently disqualified undergraduate SJSU student
from Spring 2024
As your first Open University semester, the Registrar Office will set up your account. Please fill out the google form in your DQ email from the Registrar Office. You can also email (registrar@sjsu.edu) or live chat, include your ID, that you wish to enroll for Fall 2024. You will have to wait until you have receive a confirmation from the Registrar Office before you can start enrolling in classes.
Class instruction and registration begins on Wednesday, August 21. When you have received an email from the Registrar Office, you can log into my.SJSU.edu to register or add to the waitlist. If instructor consent is required, email the faculty for a permission number.
Starting Saturday, August 31, permission numbers will be required to enroll in all classes. You must submit a Docusign Open University Registration form. Your registration will be completed by the Registrar’s Office. In the next semester when you enroll (i.e. Winter 2025), you can follow registration instructions for returning OU students. Returning Open University student
- Returning student w/ SJSU ID w/ a recent enrollment in a previous term within the
past year (i.e. an OU student who enrolled in a Spring 2024 class)
Get your account ready. Starting the first day of the term, log into MySJSU and follow these self activation steps to activate your account. After activating your account, you can enroll in your class starting from the first day of the term until the deadline to add (Sep 17).
