Learning in the MPH Online Program

The SJSU MPH program values the interactive and participatory nature of the traditional classroom experience. When we designed the online format, we wanted to retain those connections, even when students and faculty were miles (or states or countries) apart. The result – a cohort model, with students taking one accelerated course at a time and meeting live online for 3 hours of interactive instruction and group learning – is unique among other online MPH degree programs.

We use two inter-related online learning platforms: Canvas, the online SJSU Learning Management System (LMS); and ZOOM the online classroom. Trainings and booster sessions throughout the program provide detailed guidance on how to access and maximize these programs.

Along with Canvas and ZOOM, each cohort has its own Google Group which can be used for program and cohort communication, as well as communication beyond class. You will be enrolled in a Google Group for your cohort upon being admitted to the MPH program.
