Spring 2024 Advising

Welcome to Spring 2024!

Academic Advising for ME undergraduates is provided by a team of faculty from within the department and advisors from the Engineering Student Success Center (ESSC). Major advising is mandatory for all ME undergraduates whose graduation status is not yet "Applied for Graduation" or "Needs to Finish Pending Work." Until major advising is completed in the current semester, there will be a hold on your class registration for the upcoming semester.

If you have completed more than 60 units of college-level coursework, and have NOT completed your advising during your Spring 2024 semester, you may use Spartan Connect to make an appointment with one of the ME advisors. Dr. Crystal Han, Dr. Feruza Amirkulova, and Spoorthy Ananthaiah are available for major advising and their hours are shown below. Major Advising will be done virtually via Zoom

The following advising hours will begin as of 01/24/2024:

  • Dr. Crystal Han: Wednesday, 07:30-12:00; 14:30-16:00
  • Dr. Feruza Amirkulova: Tuesday, 13:15-17:15
  • Spoorthy Ananthaiah: Tuesday, 12:00-14:00; Thursday, 10:00-14:00

Before your appointment, please prepare a draft of your MyPlanner report, download as a PDF copy, and email it in advance to the faculty advisor whom you will be meeting. (As of Spring 2022, we no longer use the "advising form" that had been used for several years prior). Feedback and approval of your plan will be based on your MyPlanner report, and if edits are made you will be adsked to submit the updated version before your advising hold is removed. Holds will be lifted typically within 2 business days after your approved MyPlanner report is received.

If you have completed 60 or fewer units of college-level coursework, you would ordinarily see and advisor from the ESSC, with availability posted at https://www.sjsu.edu/essc/coe-undergraduate-advising/advising/

If you have already applied for graduation, you are welcome to meet optionally with either of the faculty advisors above, but advising is not mandatory. Holds will be lifted instead by ESSC. It is still very important to check your MyProgress report to ensure that all requirements will be met. If you have any doubts, please be welcome to email bsme-advising-group@sjsu.edu with your student ID number and a list of the classes that you plan to take in your last semester(s).

Answers to many questions about class registration, transfer credits, electives (see the list of approved technical electives [pdf]), change-of-major, applying for graduation, and other matters are available on our frequently asked questions (FAQ) page at https://sites.google.com/sjsu.edu/bsme-advising-faq. General questions about BSME advising or degree requirements are welcome via bsme-advising-group@sjsu.edu.
