OTD Program (Launched Spring 2023!)
"Our doctoral program in occupational therapy is on track to accept its first group of students in the 2022-23 academic year, and we now are in active discussions with our colleagues in the University of California system about several possible new joint Ph.D. programs." - SJSU President Mary Papazian

Fieldwork provides the opportunity for students to gradually become independent practitioners and to achieve entry-level competency. The six-month fieldwork experience places students at two clinic sites, each for three months. The SJSU Occupational Therapy Program has developed affiliations with over 250 clinical education programs. All fieldwork must be completed within 24 months of completion of coursework.
Certification
Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the National Certification Examination for the occupational therapist, administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the graduate will be an occupational therapist, registered (OTR). In addition, most states require licensure to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT certification examination.
