Learn how to register for Summer Session. The registration process is different for current students and students who want to enroll through Open University.
Current Students
Web Registration for current SJSU students begins Wednesday, April 8.
SJSU students can register for Summer Session classes in advance using MySJSU. Log into your MySJSU to check your registration appointment. Before enrolling in a class, you must meet any required course prerequisites.
If you missed the advance web registration period, you may register online at MySJSU on the first day of class with a permission number(s).
The registration period for Summer Session will close on June 8 for Session One and July 13 for Session Two.
Beginning June 9 for Session One and July 14 for Session Two, all students must use a Late Enrollment Petition form with the instructor, department chair, and PaCE signatures to register.
Please review the following information if it applies to you.
- Wait Listed Students
The waitlist shall be prioritized for graduating seniors who have a graduation application on file for summer and fall 2026; and spring 2027.
If you have been placed on the waitlist, check your MySJSU periodically to check your status. After you are enrolled, see calendar for payment deadline.
- Students With a Disability
Students with disabilities needing support services for classes (such as interpreting, test accommodations or note-taking) should contact the Accessible Education Center. You can call the Accessible Education Center at 408-924-6000, e-mail aec-info@sjsu.edu or visit www.sjsu.edu/aec.
- Repeating a Class
You may enroll online through your MySJSU on April 8. Starting April 21, you must email the Office of the Registrar at registrar@sjsu.edu with your name, ID#, 5-digit class number, subject, course number, and section number for enrollment. Beginning on the first day of summer instruction, a permission number is needed. Repeating for the Second Time or More
If you are repeating a class more than twice, starting April 8, submit the repeat a course more than 2 times petition. Be sure to follow all instructions. - Graduate Student
Graduate students enrolled in an SJSU graduate program can register for summer courses using their MySJSU account. Log into your MySJSU to check your registration appointment. Before enrolling in a class, check to make sure you meet any required course prerequisites.
Open University
Class registration begins on Wednesday, April 15. The first day of instruction is on Monday, June 1 for Session 1 and Monday, July 6 for Session 2. Attend classes online or in person starting June 1 for Session 1 and July 6 for Session 2.
Starting Wednesday, April 15, enroll in your class(es) in one of two ways:
- MySJSU. Add yourself to the class if you meet the pre-reqs and there is no waitlist. Add yourself to the waitlist if the class is full. If instructor consent is required, email the faculty for a permission number.
- DocuSign Open U registration form. Have your instructor add you to the waitlist if the class is full. Permission numbers are not necessary for form submissions.
Must have GAPE office approval for 200+ level classes. See our graduate student webpage for more information.
Secure your spot in class. Submit payment for fees by the posted deadline.
Registration for the summer Session for Open University begins after registration for matriculated SJSU students and is not guaranteed. The enrollment limit for summer Session is 4 units.
Classes are listed as either a waitlist class or an instructor consent class. See our OU FAQ in more detail.

The registration process is different for first-time Open University students, returning students, and post-graduate/high school students. Review the following information that applies to you.
First Time Open University Students
- First time with no SJSU ID
Create MySJSU account via Registration Form to register starting from 4/15.
Registration Form (link available from 4/13 ~ July 13)
After 24–48 hours, activate your MySJSU account and use the blue MySJSU button on one.sjsu.edu. Please refer to the first-time user login guide and how to access your gmail guide when logging into your accounts for the first time.
- First time and have recently attended SJSU
Log into MySJSU starting the first day of registration on April 15.
- From the student center, on the navigation tab on the left hand side, select “Other items” at the bottom to expand the menu, then click "Open University Enrollment"
- Choose “Open University Undergraduate" as the Program to Enroll if you have not earned a degree before OR “Open University PostBaccalaureate" if you have earned a degree
- Select Summer 2026 as the term and click continue. A message “You have just been activated as an Open University student” will appear. Your account is now ready for registration.
If you have issues accessing your student account, you can reset your password or contact the IT Help Desk at ithelpdesk@sjsu.edu.
- Recently DisqualifiedAs your first Open University semester, the Registrar Office will set up your account. Please refer to your DQ email from the Registrar Office for more details. You will have to wait until you have received an email from the Registrar Office before you can start enrolling in classes.
Returning Open University Students
- Recently enrolled in a previous term
Get your account ready by reactivating your account for the first day of registration on April 15. Follow the steps below or the instructions in our video tutorial.
- Log into MySJSU
- From the student center, on the navigation tab on the left hand side, select “Other items” at the bottom to expand the menu, then click "Open University Enrollment"
- Choose “Open University Undergraduate" as the Program to Enroll if you have not earned a degree before OR “Open University PostBaccalaureate" if you have earned a degree
- Select Summer 2026 as the term and click continue. A message “You have just been activated as an Open University student” will appear. Your account is now ready for registration.
If you are having problems with your MySJSU account, please contact the IT Help Desk at (408) 924-1530 or itservicedesk@sjsu.edu. Include your full name, SJSU ID and date of birth.
- No recent enrollment
You must submit a DocuSign Open University registration form. Your account and registration will be set up by the Registrar’s Office.
- Repeating a class
First-Time Repeat
- You may enroll online through your MySJSU from October 23 through December 1. Starting October 29, you must email the Office of the Registrar at registrar@sjsu.edu for enrollment. Include your name, ID#, 5-digit class number, subject, course number, and section number in the email. Beginning on the first day of summer instruction, a permission number will be required
Repeating for the Second Time or More
- If you are repeating a class more than twice, starting October 29, submit the repeat a course more than 2 times petition.
Post-Graduate and High School Students
- Post-baccalaureate/Graduate StudentsPost-baccalaureate/graduate students must submit a DocuSign Open University registration form. Your account and registration will be set up by the Registrar’s Office.
- High School StudentsHigh school students interested in taking classes at SJSU during summer session will follow the registration instructions for first-time OU students (if this is their first time) and returning OU student (if they have attended OU previously before).
