Athletic Training
San Jose State University is one of eight universities in the
United States that has both a graduate and undergraduate athletic
training education program. Both Athletic Training Education
Programs (ATEP) are housed in the Department of Kinesiology.
The San Jose State University undergraduate ATEP is currently
a CAATE accredited program, and the graduate ATEP is currently
NATA accredited.
The undergraduate program emphasis is on preparing qualified
athletic trainers for the profession by establishing their eligibility
to take the Board of Certification (BOC) Examination. The program
emphasis develops cognitive skills, psychomotor mastery, and affective
values.
The graduate athletic training education program's (GATEP) emphasis
is to provide advanced information, promote research and critical
thinking to students who are BOC certified or certification-eligible.
