How do I get information about purchasing software?
There is more information on the Help Desk page regarding purchasing software. The primary source for software purchasing information is the page now maintained by San Jose State University's Procurement Services.
Is it true that we have a campus site license for Microsoft software?
Yes, the CSU has an agreement that special pricing on some Microsoft Software. There are two parts to the agreement:
- Microsoft software for home use on non-university owned computers: Procurement Services has information about this on their Web Site.
- Microsoft software for campus use on university owned computers: Some Microsoft software is covered under our campus agreement with Microsoft and install media can be obtained by university techs by going to our ticket portal and submitting an incident ticket to request Microsoft install of media into our ticketing system. Other Microsoft software can be purchased at special reduced prices. Procurement services has software ordering information on their Web site.
What's the difference between license, media, and documentation?
The software license is certification of your legal right to use the software. The media is the CD-ROM, or DVD, and/or set of disks that has the software on it. The documentation is the user manual or set of user manuals for the software. It is mandatory that users have a license before using the software. Possession of the media alone does not constitute a license. Purchase of documentation is optional.
Are software licenses available to students?
Yes, students can get software media through the Spartan Bookstore. For more information, contact the bookstore's computer department at (408) 924-1839 or visit their website at: www.spartanshops.com.
Does this Microsoft agreement include software for Mac users?
Yes, some software licenses that Microsoft has produced for the Mac user may be obtained through this special agreement.
Does this Microsoft agreement include software for home use?
Yes, SJSU faculty and staff may obtain licenses for home use as long as it will be used at least 80% of the time at home for University work.
How much does the Microsoft software cost?
Special discounted media prices for CSU faculty and staff (only) may be obtained through the Spartan Bookstore. For more information, contact the bookstore's computer department at (408) 924-1839 or visit their website at: www.spartanshops.com.
