Configuring out of office settings

Enabling Out of Office Automated Reply Setup (For UNIX)

Use telnet to access your UNIX account.

  1. Type in rm .vacation.msg to remove any vacation messages that you have. Also, type in rm .forward to remove any email forwarding that you are doing.
  2. Type in vacation. Press n, and n again to answer No to the first two questions, then press y on the last question.
  3. Creating a message file
    At your home prompt, home/your name> type: vacation. This is what will appear:
    Subject: away from my mail
    I will not be reading my mail for a while. Your mail regarding "$SUBJECT" will be read when I return.
  4. Close your new file, using Ctrl - X and then answer yes when you're asked to save it.
    The vacation feature is now enabled.
    Note: You don't have to use the generic message automatically generated. You can
    add your own information, such as your return date, or an alternate contact while your
    gone. To do this, do the following:
    • Type pico .vacation.msg to edit the vacation message sent out when E-Mails come in.
    • Edit the message anyway you would like to and press Ctrl X when done to save your changes, and then answer yes when you're asked to save it.
    • Type exit at the home prompt /home/your name> press Exit.


Disabling Out of Office Automated Reply Setup (For UNIX)

Use telnet to access your UNIX account.

  1. To disable the vacation settings just type in vacation at the /home/your name > prompt
  2. Then type in n, then n, and a y when asked to disable the vacation feature.
  3. When done, type in rm .vacation.msg to remove any files created by the vacation feature.
  4. Type exit to close your telnet session
