UNIX password reset

About this page

This page is designed to provide the information you need to change your SJSU UNIX password. You must already have a valid UNIX password to use this procedure.

Before you Proceed

This what you must know to change your own UNIX password:

If you do not have a working UNIX password or other information listed above then go to this page.

Configuring

You must make an Internet connection via a network connection, with your ISP or via a dialup "PPP" connection to SJSU before you can change your UNIX password. For dialup, see instructions for "PPP" connections on our Web site.

  1. Follow the instructions to Telnet to the SJSU UNIX server.
  2. At the prompt type the following:
    passwd -r nisplus and press "enter."
  3. Enter the old-password.
  4. Enter the new-password.
  5. Re-enter the new-password. That is it, You are done!
    Type "exit" to quit!
