General Education Advising

For all General Education (GE) advising, please visit the ACCESS Center, located around the corner from our offices, in Clark Hall, room 240. You can also email ACCESS at for more information and to set up an appointment.

Major/Minor Inquiries

If you are interested in learning more about our major or minor but you are not yet ready to declare, schedule an appointment with Erlinda Yañez, Department Coordinator to help you weigh your options.

Major/Minor Undergraduate Advising

We highly encourage all students to meet with an advisor at least once a semester. Please schedule an appointment with Dr. Maria L. Alaniz, Undergraduate Advisor, so we can help you plan your schedule, build your roadmap, and keep you on track to graduate on time. Her office hours this semester are Wednesdays by appointment 2PM-4:30PM, and Thursdays are drop-ins at Clark Hall 231B from 2PM-4:30PM.

Preparing for your advising meeting

To have an effective and informed advising session, we recommend that you have these documents available during your appointment.

  • Four year planner (for first time freshman)
  • Two year planner (for transfers)

For degree requirements and courses, see the Chicana and Chicano Studies major and minor Undergraduate Program page in Curriculog.

Graduate Advising

If you have any questions or need help planning your graduate degree in Chicana and Chicano Studies, please contact Dr. Estevan Azcona, Graduate Coordinator and Advisor.

Finally, you may benefit from meeting with other faculty who have done research or had experience that interests you. We are proud to be an inclusive and supportive community, where we all work together for the success of all students. We encourage you to meet with any faculty member during their office hours. You may find an expert in our Faculty & Staff Directory.
