Code of Ethics

A final component of our program's conceptual framework is the Code of Ethics for the Health Education Profession. As stated in the preamble:

The Code of Ethics is grounded in fundamental ethical principles including: promoting justice, doing good, and avoidance of harm. The responsibility of each health educator is to aspire to the highest possible standards of conduct and to encourage the ethical behavior of all those with whom they work.

The Code of Ethics was adopted by the 9-member Coalition of National Health Education Organizations and was most recently updated in 2011. The Code of Ethics identifies 40 distinct ethical responsibilities of health educators across the domains of responsibilities to the public, the profession, employers, the delivery of health education, research and evaluation, and professional preparation.
