Equity, Learning and Belonging

Equity, Learning and Belonging (ELB) serves as a hub for empowering employees at San José State University. As a vital part of the People and Culture, ELB is dedicated to creating a holistic employee experience by building and maintaining supportive working and learning environments at SJSU. Through our core areas, ELB seeks to foster a workplace where every individual can belong, succeed and contribute to our campus culture.

How Our Work Connects to Institutional Excellence

Institutional Excellence at SJSU is the practice of weaving student success into everything we do. We align teaching, advising and campus services to identify and fix barriers that slow students down. We focus on results—admission, persistence, graduation, well-being and career readiness—so every student has what they need to thrive and contribute. Excellence grows when every Spartan can succeed.

The ELB team advances Institutional Excellence at SJSU by coordinating campus-wide endeavors that promote organizational excellence. These efforts include supporting the Institutional Excellence Council by facilitating action planning, implementing the Religious, Secular, Spiritual and Cultural Identity (RSSCI) task force recommendations, advancing Black Student Success initiatives and partnering on strategic projects across the university.
