Tuesday Night Lecture Series

Every Tuesday evening the Department of Art & Art History has an “Open House” that includes a weekly free public lecture or presentation from 5 - 6pm, followed by receptions in the six Student Galleries located throughout the Art Building and in the Industrial Studies Building. Students from within the School, the College, and the University--as well as members of the community including private collectors, alumni, and the general public--make use of these free cultural events to hear a noteworthy regional, national, or international artist, designer, or art historian lecture, view art in a non-intimidating atmosphere, and experience a sense of community sometimes difficult to find on this urban, commuting campus.

April 28, 2020 [Virtual Lecture] Troy Chew: Out the Mud

Troy Chew’s work explores the African Diaspora within urban culture through oil paintings, drawing and sculpture. In this online artist talk, Chew will discuss his series 'Out the Mud', his relationship to hip hop, and how that informs both the current and historical aspects of his art practice. He earned his MFA in Fine Arts in 2018 from the California College of the Arts, San Francisco, and has exhibited in the Bay Area at Headlands Center of the Arts, Guerrero Gallery, Cushion Works, Museum of the African Diaspora, and other notable institutions.
