Tribal Government Relations

Tribal members in traditional attire.

CGR Tribal Government Relations serves as the connection point for the SJSU main campus and Moss Landing Marine Labs to local tribal governments. Through this work, CGR proactively engages with tribal governments concerning activities and decision that impact tribal communities. CGR also actively seeks opportunities to collaborate with tribal governments and local tribal organizations on initiatives that benefit tribal communities and raise campus awareness of contemporary Native American issues.

Current Priorities

  • Tribal government inclusion in campus master planning
  • Tribal government participation in SJSU events through providing land acknowledgements and sharing tribal history
  • Tribal government engagement concerning the development of a Native American Resource Center on campus
  • Support for the clarification of Muwekma Ohone Tribal government federal recognition

Past Priorities

  • Providing space for tribal governments and their community members to engage in traditional activities such as the making of tribal regalia and the practicing of tribal dances and songs
