Academic Regalia (Cap & Gown)

All participating graduates are required to wear the correct degree academic regalia to attend the commencement ceremony. Academic regalia is available to purchase in the Spartan Bookstore, the Herff Jones website, or another resource.

• Undergraduate candidates

  • need a black Bachelor's graduation gown, a black graduation cap (mortarboard), and a color-specific tassel for their college.

• Credential and Master's candidates

  • need a black Master's graduation gown (sleeves differ from a Bachelor gown), a black graduation cap (mortarboard), a black tassel, and a color-specific academic hood for their degree.

• Doctoral candidates

  • Doctoral regalia is not stocked in the Spartan Bookstore and will need to be ordered early. Visit/contact Herff Jones (LINK) early to get measured and to place your order!

    Doctoral academic regalia is specific to their doctorate degree.

How do I purchase Regalia?

In-person at the Spartan Bookstore in the Student Union

In-person is the fastest & least expensive method and is recommended.

Academic regalia (cap, gown and tassel) is available for purchase at the Spartan Bookstore in the Student Union on campus from Grad Fest (March 25, 2024) to Commencement day. On commencement days, please go to the bookstore or to the bookstore tent located across from the event center entrance to make your purchase.

Online Orders - Available March 28, 2024

If you can’t make it to campus and need your order shipped to your home, please visit the Herff Jones website to place your order. The site will close 30 days prior to the first day of commencement in order to allow all orders to be delivered in time. Shipping charges will be added to online orders.

Donate Your Gown

Not sure what to do with your gown after graduation? Donate your gown to the Spartan Clothes Closet for future graduates to use!

If you need a gown, swing by the Sustainability Office to pick one up while they last.

Latin Honors Medallions

Latin Honors medallions are presented to eligible undergraduate students before the commencement ceremonies. Eligible students will be notified later in the semester by email to their "Preferred Email Address" with instructions for how to pick-up their medallion before the commencement ceremony.
