April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM).  Each year, we devote this month to spotlighting the issues of sexual assault and other forms of sexual violence. The programs and events listed below offer opportunities to educate ourselves, support survivors, and connect our community to create change.

Teal Tuesday on the Paseo - the official launch of #SJSUSAAM

Stop by to learn more about #SJSUSAAM and programs happening throughout the month, connect with campus and community resources, and get your FREE teal t-shirt (while supplies last)!

We also have zoom backgrounds to use for meetings or class sessions (must be logged into your SJSU account to view)

Teal Tuesdays

Wear teal every Tuesday to show support and tell us why you are in solidarity about this issue. Post on social media and remember to use #sjsusaam.

SAAM Drive

April 4th - Wednesday, April 27th | Various campus locations

For the month of April, the César E. Chávez Community Action Center is collaborating with Survivor Advocacy Services to organize a donation drive for the Santa Clara Sexual Assault Response Team (SART). Items to donate:

  • Sweatsuits (tops & bottoms - no logos)
  • Leggings (no logos)
  • Tunic Tops/T-shirts (no logos)
  • Socks (size 5-13)
  • Slides (preferred)/Flip Flops (size 5-13)
  • Slip-on tennis shoes (size 5-13)
  • Sports Bras
  • Shampoo (travel size)
  • Conditioner (travel size)
  • Body wash (travel size)
  • Lotion (travel size)
  • Battery charging chords (iPhone, Android, etc.)

Drop off locations:

CAPS Healthy Relationships Workshop

 

April 6th and April 13th | Zoom | 2pm - 3:30pm

Healthy Relationships is a drop in workshop that addresses the myths and taboos on relationships, discusses healthy and unhealthy conflict as well as teaching different communications styles. The workshop discusses how to navigate boundaries and communicating needs in interpersonal relationships. We welcome any questions about relationships and offer a space to discuss the interpersonal relationships in your life.

Sexual Assault Healing Series

April 12th, April 19th, April 26th | Student Wellness Center, Room 122 | 3pm - 4pm

This three-part workshop is open to those who identify as a sexual assault survivor and/or sexual harassment survivor and want a safe and supportive environment to learn more about sexual violence, healing mechanisms and setting healthy boundaries. Denim Day

April 27th | Various locations | All day

For over 20 years, wearing jeans on Denim Day has been a symbol for supporting survivors, raising awareness, and protesting against destructive attitudes about sexual violence. SJSU students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to join us in wearing denim for a purpose on April 27th. Visit https://www.denimdayinfo.org/ for more details.

 

Gender Workshop 

April 27th | San Jose Woman’s Club, 75 S 11th Street | 4:30pm - 7pm

YWCA Silicon Valley Golden Gate is hosting a Gender Workshop at The San Jose Woman’s Club on April 27th (Denim Day) from 4:30-7pm. Attendees will work to break down gender stereotypes and work towards a more equitable society. This event will be open to the general public. Check back soon for registration information.
