Tamara joined the Humanities and Arts Student Success Center (HASSC) as an academic advisor when it opened in 2015.

Prior to joining the HASSC, Tamara was the liberal studies advisor for the Department of Humanities at San Jose State University for fifteen years.

In addition to her advising duties at SJSU, Tamara also works part-time at De Anza College as a counselor for the  Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) and Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) program which is a state-funded program to help low-income and academically disadvantaged California residents to be successful in college. In addition to counseling and advising, Tamara teaches first-year experience courses and courses in human development at De Anza College.

Originally from Southern California, Tamara graduated from California State University, Northridge with a B.A. in Psychology. After completing her BA degree, Tamara spent a summer backpacking through Europe visiting over 8 countries.  When she returned to California, she decided to move to the Bay Area to pursue graduate studies at California State University, East Bay  where she earned her MS in Counseling with an emphasis in Clinical Child Psychology along with a Pupil Personnel School Credential (PPS) in School Counseling and a PPS Credential in School Psychology.

Tamara sees advising as a partnership that is essential and ongoing throughout the student's college career. Helping students find their passion and achieve their educational goals has always been a very rewarding experience for Tamara.
