Employee Parking Payroll Deduction

The CSU Pre-Tax Parking Payroll Deduction Plan (PRD) allows eligible employees to pay for CSU parking expenses with pre-tax dollars. This pre-tax benefit is available only through payroll deduction for qualified parking as defined by the IRS and established by our campus. Deductions are taken from your pay before federal, state, Social Security, and Medicare taxes are calculated. An employee's taxable income is reduced, and consequently taxable income reflected on an employee's W-2 statement is reduced.

Eligibility

  • Permanent employee with minimum 10 months appointment
  • It is the responsibility of the employee to inform Parking Services of changes to payroll status, bargaining unit, separation, or any other change that will affect the payment of parking fees. If at any time, it is discovered that the employee on Parking Payroll Deduction does not meet the qualifications, separated, or deductions cannot be completed, the parking permit may be deactivated and the employee may be removed from the payroll deduction program. The employees will be held responsible for any outstanding parking fees owed.

Enrolling Payroll Deduction Plan (PRD)

  • Parking fee deductions occur one month behind (i.e. Deduction on May paycheck pays for April parking)
  • PRD enrollment requests must be submitted by the fourth of the month to affect the deducted pay period.  PRD enrollment requests, submitted later than the fourth of the month, will affect the next deducted pay period.  Employees submitted PRD enrollment requests later than the first of the month, will need to purchase daily/weekly/monthly employee parking permits if they need to park on campus prior to PRD taking affect.
  • To enroll in parking payroll deduction complete the Employee Parking Payroll Deduction Docusign form (Please note: Once the PRD enrollment is approved, it will stay in effect until cancel by the employee or by Parking Services.  Parking Services will automatically issue a new permit of the same permit type that the employee possessed most recent.)
  • PRD requests will be reviewed by Parking Services prior to issuing a parking permit.

Cancelling Payroll Deduction Plan (PRD)

  • Parking fee deductions occur one month behind (i.e. Deduction on May paycheck pays for April parking)
  • PRD cancellation requests must be submitted by the fourth of the month to affect the deducted pay period.  PRD cancellation requests, submitted later than the fourth of the month, will affect the next deducted pay period.  Employees submitted PRD cancellation requests later than the first of the month, will incur the parking fee for that month.
  • To cancel parking payroll deduction complete the Employee Parking Payroll Deduction Docusign form (Please note: Once the PRD is approved and canceled, it will stay in effect until enroll again by the employee.)
  • If the associated parking permit is a physical permit, the employee will need to relinquish the associated physical parking permit to Parking Services.  If the associated parking permit is a virtual parking permit, Parking Services can cancel the virtual parking permit.
