Join San José State University's Three-Summer Master's Program in Music Education, one of the most progressive music education programs offered at the graduate level. 10 units are offered each summer for three summers, a unique approach that allows you to continue your work as an educator while working towards your master's degree.
The Three Summer Master of Arts in Music Education program is based on Program Director Dr. Hollinger's research into Venezuela's "El Sistema," which focuses on access to education, youth development, rigorous musicianship, and community development. This innovative degree holds the same accreditation as the traditional MA in Music Education but is delivered in a hybrid format with online courses and in-person residency in three summers.
A combination of theory and practice is used during this program. As a student, you will be challenged to embrace your own philosophy while using music and education to empower your classroom.
Three-Summer Master's Program in Music Education
Based on Dr. Hollinger's research into Venezuela's "El Sistema," the SJSU Three-Summer Master's Program in Music Education is one of the most accessible and progressive graduate music education programs offered. Theoretical courses are offered online and can be completed from anywhere in the world, while best-practice classes occur during a two-week residency.
Unique program design
This hybrid program offers you the opportunity to learn theory, history, and research courses online and attend practical courses in person at SJSU. Receive your master’s in just three summers.
Learning within a cohort offers you connection and networking opportunities as well as the chance to share ideas, theories, and practice.
Instructors are a mix of knowledgeable faculty and individuals who have accomplished artists in the field of music.
Careerexplorer.com lists California as the #1 state for music educators and states that it is one of the few states where the music teacher industry is concentrated.
"We seek to empower our community through music education and embrace El Sistema ideals of access, youth development, rigorous musicianship, and community development."Diana Hollinger
