Hosted by Spatial Analytics and Visualization Institute (SAVI)
and SJSU GIS and Drone SocietyTo celebrate National GIS Day at SJSU, we hosted a series of exciting events including a specialized housing and GIS panel, and a student poster competition. We welcomed students from SJSU and Bay Area colleges to submit posters on topics related to GIS, urban planning, geography, UAV/Drones, wildfire, public policy, computer vision, civil engineering, and computer engineering.

Laxmi Ramasubramanian, Ph.D, AICP: Dr. Ramasubramanian is a professor of urban planning at San José State University, specializing in GIS for community-based planning. She has been the Chair of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and served as President of both UCGIS and ACSP. She contributed to the National Geospatial Advisory Committee and authored "GIS and Public Participation."
Dr. Jochen Albrecht, GISP: A professor at Hunter College and The Graduate Center of CUNY, Dr. Albrecht specializes in Computational and Theoretical Geography. He authored "Key Concepts and Techniques in GIS" and co-authored "Essential Methods for Planning Practitioners." Recognized as the GIS Educator of the Year by UCGIS, he has published over 60 articles and serves as the President of GISCI.
Deborah Rojas De Leon, RA: A licensed architect in New York, Rojas De Leon is the founder of Rojas AP. Her focus is on enhancing neighborhoods through architecture and urban planning, collaborating with community organizations. She teaches Graphic Communication in the Urban Planning and Policy master program at Hunter College
Dr. Shishir Mathur: A professor at San Jose State University, Dr. Mathur has served as Associate Dean and Director of the Certificate in Real Estate Development. He is recognized for his extensive work in urban planning, real estate, and various other fields, with over 100 publications and numerous consulting projects. He has received awards for service learning and learning activities assessment, and advised organizations like UN-HABITAT.
Moderator: Jeffrey B. Hare: Jeffrey Hare teaches Land Use and Planning Law at San Jose State University. He's a practicing attorney and mediator with a focus on real estate and land use. Hare has extensive public sector experience, is a licensed real estate broker, and actively involved in various legal and planning associations.

The Spatial Analytics and Visualization Institute (SAVI) at San Jose State University celebrated digital equity on the National GIS Day 2022 on 11/16/2022 5-8 PM with a student poster competition at SJSU Student Union room 4a.
The student poster competition co-sponsored by the Public Interest Technology University Networks and with Mineta Transportation Institute (MTI).
SAVI sponsered by the genrous support from PIT-UN welcomes submissions from SJSU and the broader GIS community in the bay area.
Posters may focus on using GIS for assessing/boosting digital equity, transportation and environmental applications, including theory and practice of GIS and remote sensing, landscape design and urban planning, economic and mobility spatial analysis, transportation planning and design.

The Spatial Analytics and Visualization Center (SAVI) Center at San Jose State University is housed in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (URBP), College of Social Sciences. The SAVI Center uses the power of geography and Geographic Information Science (GIS) to produce impactful research, events and professional services to serve our university departments, neighborhood organizations, public agencies and private sector entities in Silicon Valley and the Bay Area.
With this mission, the SAVI center and SJSU eCampus are hosting GIS Day 2020 to showcase a range of GIS and visualization techniques for exploring different aspects of our social challenges. Thus, GIS Day 2020 is coming to you with the theme Mapping and Election with special keynote speaker, technology talk, a first of its kind Story Map Competition. Join SAVI on November 18, 2020 to celebrate GIS Day 2020!
