MS in Materials Engineering

Indu had a non-conventional career path. She now has her own business focused on career/life coaching. She is still keeping my technical skills alive by working with the SJSU alumni board and looking for ways to interact with Science and Engineering students.

"I have changed careers a few times and every phase has added an interesting perspective to my life. My love for the Science world started with the medical field. I did my bachelors in Chemistry, Physics and Biology in India. My dream of going to medical school did not materialize. Hence, I rebelled and did a Master's in English and became a college professor. When I emigrated to the US, I changed my direction back to Science but this time to the Engineering field since it was a great fit for my new life in the Bay area, California. Yes, it was a lot of hard work to transition into the Engineering career and I had to take a few pre-requisite courses to get admission in the Masters program in Materials Engineering but it was all very worth it.

My engineering career started at Intel Corp in the manufacturing wafer fabrication world. Then, I moved on to testing of the chips. Next was the Technical Marketing field where I grew into the management roles and visited customers around the globe. What I loved in the engineering world is that every day felt different and exciting. My love of problem solving and being part of the technological world that made so many inventions possible became the reason for my career success for three decades. On top of that, I enjoyed managing people and learning the soft skills related to team dynamics, productivity and art of delegation. Since my group was interacting with customers and new products, I also got the opportunity to travel to many countries like Japan, Korea, Israel, China and India. In addition, I learnt mindfulness at Intel Corp. and taught this skill to my fellow engineers. It also helped me alleviate my own stress while paving the way for yet another career opportunity. Now I have my own business. I do heart based career/life coaching and teach mindfulness to teens and adults. I am still keeping my technical skills alive by working with the SJSU alumni board and looking for ways to interact with Science and Engineering students."
