Graduation Application Instructions By Department:

Biology Majors

  1. Contact your major advisor to get your Graduation Plan with your remaining major coursework approved.
  2. Your major advisor must sign your completed Graduation Plan and submit it to CoSAC to be reviewed by the Department Chair or Advising Coordinator.
    • Note: CoSAC does not accept approved major coursework directly from students.
  3. Confirm with your advisor that your signed Graduation Plan has been submitted to CoSAC. CoSAC will automatically forward the Graduation Plan to the appropriate reviewer.
  4. Submit the Graduation Application Google Form.
    • Note: The Graduation Plan must be approved and signed by the reviewer in order for your graduation application to be processed.
  5. Your Graduation Status should be updated to “Applied for Graduation” within 4 weeks once your approved Graduation Plan and Graduation Application Google Form have been submitted.
    • Any approved substitutions or equivalencies should be updated in MyProgress before your Graduation Status is updated.
    • Note: If your Graduation Status has not been updated within 4 weeks or there are any issues with MyProgress, contact the CoSAC Graduation Specialist by replying to the Graduation Application confirmation email.

Chemistry Majors

  1. Contact your major advisor to update your Advising Log or Graduation Plan with your remaining major coursework approved.
    • Note: CoSAC does not accept approved major coursework directly from students.
  2. Submit the Graduation Application Google Form.
  3. Your Graduation Status should be updated to “Applied for Graduation” within 4 weeks after the Graduation Application Google Form has been submitted as long as your Advising Log or Graduation Plan has your approved coursework up to the current semester.
    • Any approved substitutions or equivalencies should be updated in MyProgress before your Graduation Status is updated.
    • Note: If your Graduation Status has not been updated within 4 weeks or there are any issues with MyProgress, contact the CoSAC Graduation Specialist by replying to the Graduation Application confirmation email.
  4. Contact your major advisor to get your Graduation Plan with your remaining major coursework approved and submitted to CoSAC by the beginning of your final semester.

Computer Science Majors

  1. Complete the Graduation Workshop/Graduation Readiness Survey.
    • Pre Registration is required for Graduation Workshop.
    • Registration for workshops opens 20 days prior to the workshop date
    • Registration for workshops closes one business day before the workshop date.
  2. Within 10 business days after you have submitted the Graduation Readiness Survey, you will be sent a “Next Steps” email from the CoSAC CS Advisor with the Graduation Workshop Advising Log.
  3. Fill in any blank requirements with approved and/or planned coursework.
  4. Submit the completed Graduation Workshop Advising Log to your Major Advisor for approval & signature.
  5. Email the signed Graduation Workshop Advising Log to the CS Advising Coordinator, Rula Khayrallah for final approval.
    • Rula will send you a confirmation email when your Graduation Plan with your approved coursework has been approved.
    • Rula will submit the approved Graduation Plan directly to CoSAC.
  6. Complete and submit the Graduation Application Google Form.
    • Note: The Graduation Plan must be approved by Rula and submitted to CoSAC in order for your graduation application to be processed.
  7. Your Graduation Status should be updated to “Applied for Graduation” within 4 weeks once your approved Graduation Plan and Graduation Application Google Form have been submitted.
    • Any approved substitutions or equivalencies should be updated in MyProgress before your Graduation Status is updated.
    • Note: If your Graduation Status has not been updated within 4 weeks or there are any issues with MyProgress, contact the CoSAC Graduation Specialist by replying to the Graduation Application confirmation email.

  1. Contact your major advisor to get your Graduation Plan with your remaining major coursework approved.

  3. Confirm with your major advisor and the Physics Department office that your signed Graduation Plan has been submitted to CoSAC.

    • Note: The Graduation Plan must be approved and signed by your major advisor in order for your graduation application to be processed.
  5. Your Graduation Status should be updated to “Applied for Graduation” within 4 weeks once your approved Graduation Plan and Graduation Application Google Form have been submitted

Graduation Requirement and Degree Evaluation Process

After your Graduation Status in MySJSU has been updated to "Applied for Graduation":

  1. Your Graduation Evaluator will review your degree requirements in MyProgress.
  2. Your assigned Graduation Evaluator will send a confirmation email to your SJSU email address that will list any deficiencies or issues.
    • You will need to review your MyProgress to check for any issues and confirm your requirements are on-track.
    • If there are any issues with MyProgress, you must contact the CoSAC Graduation Specialist.
  3. Your Graduation Status will be updated to “Needs to Finish Pending Work”
    • Your Graduation Status will be “Needs to Finish Pending Work” until all of your requirements in MyProgress are marked “Complete” (green) and your degree is awarded (usually within 1-2 months after the end of the semester).
  4. MyProgress will be used to evaluate and to award your degree.
    • Note: Any requirements that are still “In Progress” (yellow) or “Not Complete” (red) in MyProgress after the end of your final semester will delay or prevent your degree being awarded.
    • If there are any issues with MyProgress, you must contact the CoSAC Graduation Specialist.
  5. If your Graduation Status has not been updated to “Needs to Finish Pending Work” within three months, contact your assigned Graduation Evaluator.
