Prerequisite Requirements

I have an accounting degree or concentration from a U.S. institution.

Excellent! You are off to a great start.  If you have earned a degree in accounting in the U.S. you may have already completed all seven prerequisite courses. To waive the prerequisite courses, you should have completed these courses with a B grade within the past five years. The courses are:

Introductory Financial Accounting
Statistics

Five upper division accounting courses in:

Intermediate Financial Accounting I & II
Accounting Information Systems
Management Accounting and Control Systems
Taxation of Individuals and Flow-Through Entities

If you need clarification on whether you have completed all seven prerequisite courses please contact lucas-school@sjsu.edu and attach copies of your transcript(s).

If you are selected for admission to the MSA but still need some of the prerequisite courses, your offer of admission will be conditional. The condition will be that you successfully complete the required courses in the Certificate in Accounting Fundamentals offered in the summer term.

International Applicants (F-1 visa) - Please read the linked information carefully before submitting an application to the MSA for Fall.
