Applying to the M.A. Program

Applying to the MA program entails the following:

• File an online application with the University. Locate the Quick Links on SJSU website and click Apply to the Program.
  
  
• Have official transcripts of previous university work sent to:
  Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluations
  San Jose State University
  One Washington Square
  San Jose, CA 95192-0017
  
  
• Have three letters of recommendation sent to:
  Graduate Committee
  Department of Philosophy
  San Jose State University
  One Washington Square
  San Jose, CA 95192-0096

Additional materials (exam scores, writing sample, etc.) are not required, but can be submitted to the Department's Graduate Committee as optional supplementary material.

The online application contains a section for a "statement of purpose." This statement should include an account of the applicant's philosophical background, philosophical interests, and reasons for pursuing graduate study in philosophy.
