Certificate in Advanced Taxation

Program Overview

The SJSU MST Program offers three different Certificates in Advanced Taxation. These are available to individuals who already have an MST, MBT or other graduate degree (with sufficient work experience in the tax field to be successful in the program) from a US institution. Each certificate consists of three courses beyond what was taken for your MST or MBT degree. The courses are offered as part of the MST program. They aim to help a tax practitioner further hone knowledge in particular areas of interest.

Admission Requirements

• What are the admission requirements? 

  • To enroll in a Certificate of Advanced Taxation program, you must hold an MST, MBT or other graduate degree (with sufficient work experience in the tax field to be successful in the program) from a US institution. Courses will be taken through Open University. Please note, you may not take courses through Open University if you have previously been denied admission to an SJSU graduate program. 

• How can I get started? 

  • To apply, submit the pre-screening form at least a month prior to the first course you wish to take.  We will evaluate your credentials and notify you of the results.

    If you are notified that you are eligible, we will send you registration instructions.

• How much do the certificates cost? 

  • Tuition is $710 per unit or $2,130 per 3-unit course. The total cost of the certificate courses is $6,390. 

    The above costs do not include books, supplies, etc. Tuition fees are subject to change.
