PPA, AP, SAT and ACT Score Information

Eligibility to Calculus and Discrete Math can be determined by scores on the PPA, AP, CLEP,  SAT or ACT Exams.  The following tables show the scores required for registration into Calculus and Discrete Mathematics.

For Science, Engineering, Math and BS Economics students.

*The path to Math 30 or 30X is: Math 1-> Math 18A and Math 18B OR Math 19 -> Math 30 or 30X
*Students may start further along this path depending on their math enrollment cetegory and their PPA score, as described in the table below.
*Depending upon background and score, each course may also require a support course and/or workshop.

For Business and Packaging Students:

*The path to Math 70 or 70X is: Math 1-> Math 18A OR Math 19 -> Math 70 or 70X
*Students may start further along this path depending on their math enrollment cetegory and their PPA score, as described in the table below.
*Depending upon background and score, each course may also require a support course and/or workshop.

For Aviation, Technology, Packaging and BA Economics students:

*The path to Math 71 or 71X is: Math 1-> Math 18A OR Math 19 -> Math 71 or 71X
*Students may start further along this path depending on their math enrollment cetegory and their PPA score, as described in the table below.
*Depending upon background and score, each course may also require a support course and/or workshop.

Computer Science, Mathematics, Computer and Software Engineering students

*The path to Math 42 or 42X is: Math 1-> Math 18A and 18B OR Math 19 -> Math 42 or 42X
*Students may start further along this path depending on their math enrollment cetegory and their PPA score, as described in the table below.
*Depending upon background and score, each course may also require a support course and/or workshop.

Note:  Some departments that require Math 71 allow students who have taken Math 30 to make a course substitution.  Students who earned a 3 or better in the AP Calculus Exam or earned a C- or better should contact their academic advisor about waiving the Math 71 requirement.
