Freshman Undergraduate Admissions

Admission Requirements 


*A freshman applicant is a student who has graduated from (or is still in) high school and who has not enrolled in a regular (non-summer) session course at any college or university following graduation.

How to Apply- Freshman Undergraduate

Required Documents

  • Transcripts
  • Official electronic transcripts can be sent to Undergraduate Admissions at etranscript@sjsu.edu by a school official from a verifiable school email address or via a transcript submission service.
  • Official physical transcripts can be mailed in a sealed and signed/stamped envelope to

  • Academic Records
    Official academic records, including transcripts, mark sheets, diplomas, and degrees from every secondary and post-secondary school you attended, must be sent directly to SJSU's Office of Undergraduate Admissions in separate sealed envelopes. There are no exceptions. Copies of documents sent directly by the applicant will not be accepted or processed.

Note: Your grade 9th-12th transcripts must be in English or with certified English translation. Transcripts can be submitted electronically (strongly preferred) to etranscript@sjsu.edu by your school official and from a verifiable school email or mailed to the following address in a sealed envelope:

  • Test Scores
  • Official test scores, such as TOEFL/IELTS/PTE/Duolingo and SAT/ACT must be sent directly from the testing company. If possible, please have your test scores sent electronically by the testing company. For proper identification, be sure to register for tests using the name you provided on your application, and that is on your passport. Score reports for TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, and Duolingo over two years old are not valid. The school code for SAT and TOEFL results is 4687.
  • Financial documents 
  • As part of the application process for international applicants (i.e. those seeking F-1 status), you must submit a Declaration of Finance along with supporting financial documents. Upload your documents through the Document Upload Form.
  • Passport
  • Submit a copy of your current passport with your current legal name. The name on your passport MUST match the name you used when you submitted your application. Your passport must be current and not less than three months from expiring. Upload your passport through the Document Upload Form.

Please note that documents in languages other than English must be accompanied by certified English translations by an approved government or school official. Notarized translations will not be accepted.
