Start your SJSU program with support from the #GlobalSpartan community. iSucceed is a peer mentor program exclusively for SJSU international students, designed to help them navigate arrival and campus life through their first year at San Jose State University.
New international students will be paired with a Peer Mentor, a fellow Global Spartan who will provide guidance as they begin their SJSU experience. iSucceed participants enjoy unique benefits, such as:

Join iSucceed
Fall 2024 ApplicationJoin a community of peers to support you as you transition to SJSU, and life in the United States. Members of iSucceed at SJSU will be matched with a trained Peer Mentor, who will serve as your friend and inside-guide during your first year at SJSU. There is no cost to participate in iSucceed.

Who can join iSucceed?
- New international undergraduate and graduate students
- Exchange students (on J-1 status)
- New students who may not be on an F-1 visa, but identify as “international”. For example, a U.S. Citizen who has spent significant time outside of the U.S. and may identify more strongly with a culture other than that of the U.S.
Responsibilities & Expectations
- Commit to the program for one semester (maximum of 2 semesters for fall-start students)
- Participate in the iSucceed Kick Off Event during Week 1
- Communicate with your Peer Mentor on a regular basis
- Attend monthly in-person All Hands Meeting
- Engage in the iSucceed community in-person and online by participating in events and communicating with others in the program

Become a Peer Mentor
2024-25 ApplicationPeer Mentors serve as volunteer guides for new international students, helping them navigate social, cultural, and academic transitions.
Why should you be a volunteer Peer Mentor?
- Expand your worldview! This is an opportunity to learn from others about cultures across the globe.
- Make a difference! It feels good to help others, and you’d be surprised to see the impact your kindness can make on someone’s life.
- Boost your resume! Develop intercultural, interpersonal, and leadership skills--transferable skills employers seek.
- Work on a multicultural team in a supportive environment.
Who can apply to be a Peer Mentor?
- Undergraduate students (international or U.S.) in good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher) with at least 1 year at SJSU.
- Graduate students (international or U.S.) in good academic standing (3.0 GPA or higher) with at least 1 semester at SJSU.
Responsibilities
- Commitment to one year as a Peer Mentor (May to May)
- Required attendance at a virtual Mentor Orientation during summer
- Required participation in iSucceed Kick Off event during Week 1 (fall and spring)
- Check in regularly with Mentees via email, social media, text, phone conversation or in-person (you decide as a Mentor Family what works best for you)
- Provide support and guidance to Mentees, directing them to appropriate resources as necessary
- Attend 2 meetings a month: (1) Peer Mentor Training; (2) All Hands Meetup for all iSucceed members (Mentors and Mentees)
- Engage with the iSucceed community in person and online
- Keep in close communication with your Advisory Board liaison, who will help you during your time as a Peer Mentor (the Advisory Board is like a small team of mentors mentoring a mentor).
- Assist Advisory Board with iSucceed events.
