Extension of an exchange visitor program must be done at least 15 business days before the exchange visitor’s current DS-2019 form expires.

The host department along with the College Dean must first approve the extension before the paperwork is submitted to the International Student and Scholar Services Office (ISSS). The extension can only be authorized for the continuation of the original objective the scholar was invited to pursue at SJSU.

Please submit the J-1 Exchange Visitor Extension Request Form to ISSS along with proof of continued financial support and proof of health insurance coverage for the visiting scholar and his/her dependents during the requested extension period.
