Dance Parties

In traditional Khatso culture, young people would often gather for dance parties in the countryside after their daily chores were done. These parties, which have a dedicated verb na53pɤ31, included group singing and dancing that would often continue until dawn. In this excerpt, Khuɛi44 Li24 奎丽 (KL) asks life-long friends Ja31 Tsi24fɛi44 杨进芬 (YJF) and Kua44 Tshɛi33suɛi24 官彩顺 (GCS), women born in the 1930s, to describe the parties of their youth. This conversation was recorded on April 8, 2013 in Xingmeng.
